If you’re planning a trip to Biltmore Estate—especially during Christmas—one of your biggest decisions may be where to stay.
Biltmore is close enough to Asheville that you can choose from dozens of hotels, vacation rentals, and other accommodations outside the estate (you can check out our review on the Renaissance Asheville Downtown here). Staying on the property will usually cost more, so is the added convenience really worth the extra money?
My wife and I stayed at Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate during our November 2025 visit. Although we had visited Biltmore several times before, neither of us had stayed overnight on the estate.
After finally trying it, my short answer is this: Staying at Biltmore Estate is worth doing at least once, particularly for a first Christmas visit or a special occasion.
It was our most convenient, relaxing Biltmore trip—but it probably isn’t the right choice for travelers focused primarily on saving money.

Where Can You Stay at Biltmore Estate?
Biltmore offers three general types of overnight accommodations:
- Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate: A casual hotel within walking distance of the restaurants, shops, and Winery in Antler Hill Village.
- The Inn on Biltmore Estate: A more luxurious hotel experience, generally positioned above Village Hotel in both amenities and price.
- Cottages on Biltmore Estate: Private accommodations designed for travelers who want more space, privacy, and a premium experience.
We chose Village Hotel because it offered the balance we wanted: an on-property location without moving up to the more expensive luxury options.
The Biggest Advantage To Staying At Biltmore Estate: Convenience
Convenience is the strongest reason to consider staying at Biltmore Estate.
When you stay elsewhere in Asheville, you need to drive to the estate, enter through the gate, park, and plan your day around your ticket and transportation. Biltmore is enormous, and moving between its major attractions can require more time than first-time visitors expect.
Staying on the estate gave us a much more relaxed experience. We could enjoy the property without feeling as though everything had to be squeezed into a single block of time.
Village Hotel was especially convenient because it placed us beside Antler Hill Village. Restaurants, shops, outdoor gathering spaces, and the Winery were all nearby. Instead of turning every meal or activity into a separate excursion, we could simply walk next door.
That convenience mattered even more during Christmas at Biltmore, when the estate attracts plenty of visitors and advance planning becomes especially important.
Transportation Around the Estate
Biltmore House is not within practical walking distance of Village Hotel, but lodging guests have access to designated shuttle service.
We used the shuttle that picked us up near the hotel and dropped us close to Biltmore House. That eliminated the need to drive and park for that portion of our visit, making the day noticeably less stressful.
The official Village Hotel information currently notes that lodging shuttles run between Village Hotel, The Inn, Biltmore House, and selected estate locations. However, Biltmore does not offer an estate-wide shuttle to every attraction, and it recommends having your own vehicle.
Staying at Biltmore During Christmas
Christmas is arguably one of the best occasions for staying at Biltmore Estate.
The house, grounds, lodging areas, and Antler Hill Village are decorated for the season. Because we were already staying on the property, we could enjoy the atmosphere at a more comfortable pace instead of treating it as a single-day sightseeing stop.
For us, that slower pace was a major part of the experience. We had time to walk around, have dinner, visit the Winery, and enjoy the estate without constantly thinking about when we needed to leave.
Biltmore House admission is ticketed and requires a reserved entry time. Christmas ticket options and overnight packages vary, so check exactly what your reservation includes. Some lodging packages may bundle admission, breakfast, or other benefits, while a room-only reservation may not include the same extras.
The Biltmore Winery Experience
A complimentary wine tasting is one of the experiences available to eligible Biltmore guests. You do not need to stay overnight to enjoy it—access is available with qualifying estate admission, an annual pass, or a stay at one of Biltmore’s overnight properties.
The advantage of staying at Village Hotel is location. The Winery is just a short walk from the hotel, making it easy to visit before or after dinner without building another drive into the day.
During our trip, that convenience made the Winery feel like a natural part of the stay instead of another attraction we needed to fit into an itinerary.
Current complimentary tastings are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Check Biltmore’s Winery information before visiting because access requirements, hours, and tasting procedures may change.
Our Village Hotel Room
We stayed in a room with a king bed at Village Hotel.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom and shower were nice, and we had no complaints about the condition of the room.
At the same time, the room itself was not the main attraction. It did not have an extravagant feature that made the price worthwhile on its own.
That distinction is important: You are paying for more than the room.
The real value comes from the location, estate access, atmosphere, and ability to experience Biltmore at a more relaxed pace. If you evaluate Village Hotel solely by comparing the room with an off-property hotel room, the price may be difficult to justify.
Dining and Amenities at Village Hotel
Village Hotel is positioned beside dining, shopping, and the Winery in Antler Hill Village. During our stay, we also enjoyed convenient access to coffee, an outdoor patio and fire pit, and a restaurant where breakfast was included with our package.
Package benefits can vary. Do not assume breakfast, Biltmore House admission, or other extras are included unless they appear in your specific reservation.
Pros and Cons of Staying at Biltmore Estate
Advantages
- You can experience the estate at a slower, less stressful pace.
- Village Hotel is within walking distance of Antler Hill Village and the Winery.
- Lodging shuttle service makes reaching Biltmore House easier.
- The on-property atmosphere can make a Christmas visit feel more special.
- It is a convenient choice for a celebration, romantic getaway, or first visit.
- Certain packages may include admission, breakfast, or additional benefits.
Disadvantages
- Staying on the estate will often cost more than an Asheville hotel or vacation rental.
- The Village Hotel room was comfortable but not extraordinary by itself.
- Food and activities on the estate can increase the overall trip cost.
- You may still need a car to explore parts of the property.
Who Should Stay on the Estate?
Staying at Biltmore Estate may be worth it if:
- This is your first Biltmore visit.
- You are visiting during Christmas.
- You are celebrating an anniversary, birthday, or a special occasion.
- Convenience is more important to you than finding the lowest price.
- You want to explore without fitting everything into one rushed day.
- You plan to spend most of your trip on the estate.
You may prefer to stay in Asheville if:
- Your main priority is keeping the trip affordable.
- You want to divide your time between Biltmore and downtown Asheville.
- You only plan to spend one day at the estate.
- You do not mind driving, parking, and managing a more structured itinerary.
- You want a larger selection of nearby restaurants and entertainment.
Is Staying at Biltmore Estate Worth It?
For us, staying at Biltmore Estate was worth it—at least once.
It was our favorite and least stressful Biltmore visit because everything felt more accessible. Staying at Village Hotel allowed us to slow down, enjoy Antler Hill Village and the Winery, and experience Christmas at Biltmore without making the trip feel like a race against the clock.
Would we pay the extra money every time we visit? Definitely not.
Now that we have experienced an overnight stay, we would likely choose a more affordable Asheville hotel on a future trip. But for our first Christmas visit, staying on the property made the experience feel more complete.
If you value convenience and atmosphere, it can be worth the premium. If your budget is the deciding factor, staying elsewhere in Asheville will probably make more sense.

Before reserving a room, compare Biltmore’s current lodging packages with hotels in Asheville. Pay attention to admission, meals, transportation, and other inclusions rather than comparing room rates alone.
